Checkers Robot
This robot is an homage to the Mechanical Turk, capable of playing a game of checkers completely autonomously. Utilizing various combinations of checkers base code, machine learning, and computer vision, the robot will choose its next move, and move the appropriate piece. The robot has four distinct programs, each with a unique playing strategy.
End Effector
I designed a custom electromagnetic end effector to integrate into the end of the Mycobot arm. This electromagnet was able to easily interact with our custom created checkers, eliminating the time spent perfecting the interaction between a traditional gripper and the small checkers in software.
Checkers
I custom designed the checkers and kings for this project. The checkers were designed to minimize weight, while ensuring significant metal surface for electromagnetic interaction, being appropriately sized for the custom checkers board, and having enough colored plastic to be seen by CV.
