Duke Special Topics Course: ROV
Project Description
As a part of a Special Topics Design Course, I designed and built a remote operated vehicle (ROV) as part of a team of 4 students. The ROV was an engineering and waterproofing challenge. It needed to be capable of traversing a 25-yard, 8 foot deep pool, able to lift custom 5 lbs. targets, and differentiate between steel, aluminum, and plastic targets underwater, all within a $500 budget. We designed it over the course of two weeks, chose our materials and fabricated custom parts as required (via CAD in SOLIDWORKS and Onshape, and FDM 3D printing), selected and acquired our off-the-shelf parts, and then built the ROV over the following three weeks.
